If You Listen

So, Eden is a huge fan of Elizabeth Mitchell's music. I tried to get Jace into it, but all he cares to listen to is Frank Sinatra (which is just fine, don't get me wrong). But Mitchell's music is so fun and I like the fact that it's for kids, but as an adult I can enjoy it too. She sings a lot of songs that I remember from my childhood and some I had never heard before, but I can honestly say I like every song. There is one in particular that both Eden and I love called "If You Listen" (originally written by Francoise Hardy). I can sing this song to her most anytime that she is being fussy and she immediately calms down. I love that I can share this with her and that she seems to appreciate music as much as I do. The lyrics are as follows:

if you listen you can hear
birds sing and flowers grow
if you listen you can hear
my love for you just grow
in the silence that's around
deep peace and love are found
in the days that will be here
my love will call you loud and clear
and in the silent place where loneliness is found
I'll wander through the open door
to look for you
there in that magic land
that lies beyond the clouds floating on the sea of dreams
I'll sing to you

The first few times I heard this song I cried like a baby. It was pitiful. But there's something about what the song says that makes me realize what a blessing it is that I have the two beautiful children I do. I have always felt a passion for music and the power it has in our lives for good or bad. This song seemed to exemplify what I find to be good and uplifting in the music I chose to bring into my life.

I don't know what it is, but it seems like this time around (having another child) I feel more calm, more centered and better able to handle the rough patches that come along. Yes, I still have bad days as you all know, but it's been such a blessing to be able to sit back and truly appreciate what is happening now with both Jace and Eden. The love that I have for the both of them is more than I could have imagined was possible. And not only does it make the love I have for them stronger it has made my appreciation for the other people in my life greater as well. I can honestly say I feel truly blessed to have what I do have in my life now, no matter how little or much, it seems like could not possibly deserve all that I have been given.

By the way, for those of you interested in Eden's stats:
2 month check up
13 pounds 2 ounces (95%)
24 inches long (95%)
16 inches around her head

She's getting so big! And smiling and talking more everyday.

I love the pictures! It's crazy for me to think that Eden is the age Lucy was when we moved to Lex. The time goes by fast.

Wow, really? Frank Sinatra? That is awesome.

Matthew's got more Euro post-punk taste. He's into Idlewild and Franz Ferdinand. Weird.

Your little Eden is just so cute.
